Casuarina Tree Cones

These tiny cones come from casuarina trees on Hong Kong's south coast.  Each pack contains about 80 pieces, which have been soaked in water and vinegar and then baked in the oven to make sure they aren't hosting any little 'guests'.  Like pine cones, they should last for years if stored in a dry place. 

With an appearance similar to small pine cones, they can fit into a much smaller space, such as a hurricane lamp, where they give a very nice festive touch.   Do not let them get too close to a candle flame, or try a flameless candle for complete peace of mind.
